City of <br /> Elk Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Mayor and City Council 6.3 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> Presentations,Awards, May 19, 2014 Suzanne Fischer,Director, CODD <br /> and Recognitions <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> Minnesota Wastewater Treatment Facility Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> Operational Award Reviewed by <br /> Action Requested <br /> Presentation of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Commendation Certificate. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> Each year, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency(MPCA) recognizes municipalities and industries for <br /> outstanding and innovative achievements in wastewater treatment and pollution abatement programs. <br /> The City of Elk River was among 128 of the state's 1,360 wastewater treatment facilities to receive this <br /> award at the annual Wastewater Operations Conference in Brooklyn Center. <br /> To be eligible for this award, facility operators were required to submit all monitoring reports to the <br /> MPCA correctly and on time,demonstrate consistent compliance through monitoring or surveys and <br /> employ MPCA-certified operators.This award acknowledges the dedication and hard work of the <br /> previous Chief Wastewater Operator Gary Leirmoe and his staff. <br /> The wastewater treatment plant has received this award 14 times since 1979. In 2001, the plant received <br /> second place in the National Wastewater Management Excellence Awards Program. <br /> Attached is a letter from the MPCA Commissioner John Linc Stine informing the City of the Certificate <br /> of Commendation received for the period October 1, 2012, to September 30, 2013.
