County Ditch//31 Cleaning

What I think I know.

1. The council approved funding for cleaning of this ditch on Jan. 26th.
2. Ditch #31 South of the North boundary of Woodlands is a DNR
"protected tributary stream".
3. The ditch was last cleaned in 1988.
4. Work is scheduled to begin on the south end of this project on March
8th.
5. We have a meeting scheduled to discuss this project on site at
Woodlands on Feb 26th at 3pm.

Questions I have.

1. Did you know this ditch runs through Woodland Trials Park?
2. What are the impacts to the Park?
A. How will they access the ditch in the Park?
B. How many, if any, trees will have to be removed to gain access
and do the work?
C. How will the paved trails be protected?
D. How will the wetland in Woodlands be impacted?
3. Did the request to have this ditch cleaned come about because of the
"big rain event" last June?
4. Will this cleaning solve the problem that the petitioners have?
5. Will we have to clean this ditch every 16 years? If so, is there a
better, less costly alternative?
Why did the Park Commission have to find out abut this project
by reading about it in the newspaper??

Things that might be good to consider.

1. We might be able to enhance the wetland in the park and help manage
the storm water runoff if we plan ahead and build a control structure
in the park.
2. Because this is a DNR "protected tributary stream" and it goes
through the park, should we ask for an EAW?
3. What is the hurry? Can we wait a year to start this project if all
questions cannot be answered before the ditch cleaning season passes
us by?
