The purpose of the new rules are
to update the air quality standards that were set in the 1980's and to assist the ice rinks to set standards
that will protect the public's health.
The new rules outline the number of times air quality must be tested, when and where the testing has to
be done, and if testing needs to be done at all.
Testing isn't required for arenas like Elk River that don't use combustible motors to maintain ice such as
the Zamboni and Ice Edger. However arenas are responsible for keeping carbon dioxide and nitrogen
dioxide levels below state-mandated levels.
Even though the Arena falls under the rule that readings don't have to be kept,we have budgeted funds
in 2014 to install a continuous air monitoring equipment for both sheets of ice.
Financial Impact
• $10,000.00 - $13,000.00
Attachments
• Minnesota Department of Health Indoor Air Quality standard rules
P' 0WIAEU 0
Ali '
