Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk - Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau— Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
March 18, 2014 1.4
SUBJECT:
Water Fluoridation Quality Award
BACKGROUND:
The water department once again earned the Centers for Disease Control 2012 Water Quality Fluoridation
Award. This award recognizes municipal water systems that monitor and control the fluoridation of their
water to maintain the dosage within the required limits. To earn this award, the water department must
complete daily fluoride samples, annual state required fluoride samples, annual raw water fluoride
samples, and a monthly fluoride report.
DISCUSSION:
This award shows the dedication and knowledge of the water operators monitoring the wells on a daily
basis. The water operators must ensure that fluoride is being injected into the system at a steady and
reliable rate. There is only .6 parts per million margins of error. The target is 1.2 parts per million. Their
dedication to producing quality drinking water to the residents of Elk River shines through when an award
such as this is given to the water department.
ATTACHMENTS:
• 2012 Water Quality Fluoridation Letter from the Minnesota Department of Health and certificate
from the Centers of Disease Control
jirIei'!
