Item # 9.B.3.
City of
Elk
River MEMORANDUM
TO: Park and RecreatioCoCommission
FROM: Michele McPherson;Director of Planning
DATE: August 14, 2002
SUBJECT: Discuss Park Dedication - Revised Elk River Station
Request
The Commission is asked to discuss park dedication for a revised plan of Elk River Station.
No action is being requested at this time. The Commission,at the September meeting, will
review a formal proposal by the applicant.
Attachments
• Location Map
• August 8, 2001 Staff Report
• August 8, 2001 Commission Meeting Minutes
• Map of Total Green Space, Original Elk River Station
• Concept Park Plan, Revised Elk River Station
• Preliminary Plat, Original Elk River Station
• Revised Concept Plan, Elk River Station
Overview
The original plan for Elk River Station included approximately 480 dwelling units, office
space, and commercial uses on 65 acres of property. There were also a variety of small open
spaces to be utilized for green space and recreational areas. The "big picture" concept
behind Elk River Station is to promote transit-oriented development in response to the
Northstar Corridor commuter parking lot and eventually rail. The residential units were
comprised of 4 60-unit apartment buildings and back-to-back and row townhomes.
The concept has been changed in order to reduce the amount of vehicle trips per day out of
the site. The number of apartment buildings have been reduced to one, and more
townhomes have been added.
