ITEM # 8. <br /> City o <br /> Elk <br /> River <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: Park and Recreation Commission <br /> FROM: Michele Bergh, Recreation Manager <br /> DATE: October 2, 2003 <br /> SUBJECT: Recreation Department Update <br /> Holiday Programs <br /> Our Holiday Program Guide was delivered October 1'with the Star News and the phones <br /> have been busy with registration. We are looking at adding a referral program and a new <br /> resident program to help promote our services and programs. <br /> Family Fright Night <br /> We are in the midst of planning this event and look forward to another successful year. I <br /> have arranged for Sherburne County STS to help with clean up afterwards. We will be <br /> adding the Country Club to the spaces used and plan on having the children's projects and <br /> games indoors. <br /> Leagues <br /> Women's Volleyball and Co Rec Volleyball started this week. We have 2 more team than <br /> last year for Women's and 1 more team for Co Rec. We look forward to another successful <br /> year with these. Intramural Basketball will not begin until December this year, allowing time <br /> for Varsity tryouts to be completed. <br /> Skating Academy <br /> The Arena is having problems with the floor in the Barn and this delayed the start of some <br /> of the Skating Academy classes this session due to ice availability. We are hoping the <br /> problems will be resolved soon and classes can begin. <br /> MRPA Conference <br /> RaeAnn and I attended the state conference last week and had a wonderful time. We <br /> attended sessions on marketing, being visible in the community,how to deal with the <br /> changing times, benefits of a healthy lifestyle,what to look for in registration software, and <br /> more. The keynote speakers were very good and very motivating. We also spent time <br /> brainstorming ideas off the sessions we attended and came back feeling rejuvenated and <br /> excited. <br />
