ITEM 1 8.
City or
Elk .-
River
MEMORANDUM
TO: Park and Recreation Commission
FROM: Michele Bergh, Recreation Manager
DATE: August 13, 2003
SUBJECT: Recreation Department Update
Summer Programs
Summer programming is winding down and will be complete on Aug 22"d. We've had a
great summer and are looking forward to offering many of the same programs for next year
and adding in some new ones. We have been trying to survey the participants to gather
information on what they liked, didn't like, ideas they might have, etc. to help us with this
for next year. Next year's Lions Den Summer Camp will have an added feature, making it
more of an inclusive program, where you will be able to choose between activities planned
just for Lions Den or attending one of our sports camps during that time frame. There will
be sports camps available in the morning and in the afternoon to choose from.
Fall Programming
Our September/October 2003 program guide is out and we have started to take
registrations. Firearm Safety is the most popular at this point. We have people calling from
all over the cities about it. Our wellness program continues and we hope will be popular
again this fall. We will be offering Family Fright Night again and are looking for groups who
are interested in helping.
MRPA Conference
This has been moved to the end of September this year and will take place in Bemidji. I am
hopeful that our admin staff will be able to attend.
