ITEM 1 8. <br /> City or <br /> Elk <br /> River <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: Park and Recreation Commission <br /> FROM: Michele Bergh, Recreation Manager <br /> DATE: May 14, 2003 <br /> SUBJECT: Staff Report <br /> SUMMER PROGRAM GUIDE <br /> Our final summer program guide is currently at the printer and will be delivered to the <br /> schools at the end of May to go home with the students and then to Elk River residents the <br /> first Wednesday in June. We removed any programs that were full at the time it went to <br /> press and added many new programs and, once again, found ourselves with a 20 page <br /> program guide. Summer is always our largest one, but had not exceeded 16 pages until this <br /> year. <br /> NEW PROGRAMS <br /> We are offering several new programs this summer including: <br /> • Daytime once a week Soccer League for ages 7-12 <br /> • Daytime once a week Flag Football League for grades 3-8 <br /> • SPARK- Sports,Play and Recreation for Kids! For ages 7-12 <br /> This program has curriculum that will be used and is geared towards all inclusive fun <br /> and learning. It has many components including sports, games, nutrition, setting <br /> physical activity goals, and more. <br /> • Pro Excel Soccer Camp <br /> • 4th of July Family Fun Run <br /> • Introductory Lesson to Disc Golf for all ages <br /> • Power Play for ages 7-12 <br /> They will play different sports each week. <br /> • Fishing Programs <br /> • Pee Wee Fitness for ages 4-6 <br /> This program will include yoga,kickboxing, and use a variety of fitness equipment. <br /> • Workshops on Cardiovascular Health and Detoxification <br />
