Ct of j Request for Action River To Item Number Parks and Recreation Commission 6.1 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by Action Item December 11,2013 Michael Hecker,Parks and Recreation Director Item Description Reviewed by Orono Athletic Complex Renaming Recommendation Reviewed by Action Requested City staff recommends that the Parks and Recreation Commission rename the Orono Athletic Complex to the Dave Anderson Athletic Complex as outlined in the Parks and Facilities Naming Policy Procedures. Background/Discussion The Parks and Recreation Commission discussed and reviewed last month the request from John Dietz that the Orono Athletic Complex be renamed to the Dave Anderson Athletic Complex. This request was submitted in writing as outlined in the Parks and Facilities Naming Policy. Also,as required in the policy, a public notice requesting a public meeting for renaming shall be posted and published in the local paper at least 10-days prior to the meeting. A copy of the public notice published on November 30 is attached. The contributions that Dave Anderson has made to the city's park system are tremendous and unparalleled in comparison. Dave has spent the past 30-years volunteering thousands of hours creating, improving and maintaining our park system. Staff highly recommends this action to rename the complex. Staff discussion with Dave Anderson indicates that the name "Dave Anderson Athletic Complex" is preferred as stated in the original request last month. This action will need to be forwarded to City Council for final decision. Staff plans to place this item on the City Council agenda for January. Financial Impact None at this time.
