4 --Elk Riv
Municipal Utilities
322 King Avenue phone: 763.441.2020
Elk River. MN 55330 Fax -634418099
August 5, 2003
To: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission
John Dietz
Jerry Takie
James Tralle
From: Bryan C. Adams
Subject: Up-date Well #8
At the May 13, 2003, Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission meeting, authorization
was given to proceed with water facility #8. This facility is in the city park adjacent to
Grace Assembly of God. See the attached map. The test wells were constructed at the
location of Well #8 and Well #9. The ground formations at Well #8 were as expected
with good water quality. The test Well #9, yielded a pleasant surprise. There is a large
water bearing gravel layer above the Mt. Simon Hinckley formation that yields a large
amount of water. The Well #9 site is a good location for two production wells. One in
the water bearing gravel at elevations 185 to 280, and the other in the Mt. Simon
Hinckley formation below 315 feet. Both well outputs would be piped to water facility
#5 for treatment. We are still waiting for the water quality analysis, but the initial
indications are good. This is good news, for it is getting more difficult to purchase land
for water production or storage facilities.
At the September 2003, commission meeting, bid tabulations will be presented to
construct Well #8 and construct the raw water line from Well #8 to treatment plant #7 for
treatment.
