• MINUTES OF THE ELK RIVER <br /> HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> Thursday,June 21,2012 <br /> HPC Members present: Chair Lance Lindberg,Debra Mortensen,Marilyn VanPatten and <br /> Joshua Fox <br /> HPC Members absent: Stephen Rohlf <br /> Staff Present: Environmental Administrator,Rebecca Haug <br /> Environmental Assistant,Rachel King <br /> Others Present: Michael Brubaker,Sherburne History Center <br /> Oath of Office <br /> Commissioner VanPatten was sworn in. <br /> 1) Meeting called to Order <br /> Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission was called to order at 6:07 p.m.by Chair Lindberg. <br /> 2) Consider June 21,2012 HPC Agenda <br /> MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA BY COMMISSIONER FOX AND SECOND BY <br /> COMMISSIONER MORTENSEN.ALL IN FAVOR MOTION CARRIED. <br /> • 3) Consider April 19,2012 HPC Minutes: <br /> MOTION TO APPROVE THE APRIL 19,2012.MINUTES BY COMMISSIONER <br /> MORTENSEN AND SECOND BY COMMISSIONER FOX. ALL IN FAVOR MOTION <br /> CARRIED. <br /> 4) GENERAL BUSINESS <br /> 4.1) Elk River Water Tower Update <br /> The HPC was informed by staff that the Elk River Water Tower was accepted by the National Park <br /> Service to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They were very impressed and <br /> hopeful that other states will preserve their historic water towers. <br /> The HPC discussed fundraising options. Staff informed the HPC that they can accept donations and <br /> a resolution would need to be passed by the City Council accepting them. The donations would only <br /> be allowed to be spent on the water tower restoration. Commissioner VanPatten informed the <br /> Commission that Rotary may be willing to do fundraising for the water tower restoration. She <br /> explained how fundraising efforts were done for the Handke Stadium and the trail along the <br /> Mississippi River. The HPC could have a poster contest,sell paving blocks, "HlstoryDay in 2013, <br /> work with Art Soup in 2013 and work with Rivers Edge. Michael Brubaker suggested creating a <br /> Facebook page with a Donate Now button. Commissioner Fox will look into a 501c3 to create a <br /> "Friends of the Water Tower". <br /> 4.2) Planning Commission Items <br /> There were no items for discussion. <br /> 4.3) Downtown Task Force Update <br /> • <br />
