Elk River <br /> Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br /> TO: FROM: <br /> Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Troy Adams, P.E. — General Manager <br /> John Dietz—Chair <br /> Daryl Thompson — Vice Chair <br /> Al Nadeau—Trustee <br /> MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br /> October 8, 2013 5.2 <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Resolution recognizing NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK, October 6— 12, 2013 <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> In 1992 the Congress, by Senate joint resolution, designated the first week of October of 1992 as <br /> National Customer Service Week and requested the President issue a proclamation in support. <br /> On October 8, 1992, President George Bush issued Proclamation 6485 recognizing National <br /> Customer Service Week the first week of October 1992. <br /> In President Bush's proclamation he notes "A businesses [sic] will do a better job of providing <br /> high quality goods and services by listening to its employees and by empowering them with <br /> opportunities to make a difference. Customer service professionals work in the front lines where <br /> a firm meets its customers; where supply meets demand. With responsive policies and <br /> procedures and with simple courtesy, customer service professionals can go a long way toward <br /> ensuring customer satisfaction..." <br /> DISCUSSION: <br /> Elk River Municipal Utilities mission statement specifies: To provide our customers with safe, <br /> reliable, cost effective and quality long term electric and water utility service. To communicate <br /> and educate our customers in the use of utility services,programs, policies, and future plans. <br /> These products and services will be provided in an environmentally and financially responsible <br /> manner. To be successful in our mission to our customers, it is essential that ERMU provide <br /> excellent customer service while providing safe, reliable, and cost effective utility services. <br /> It has been a focus of management for the past 5 years to celebrate our staff's commitment to <br /> providing excellent customer service. Management has encouraged staff to take initiative and <br /> lead in the effort to provide excellent customer service.
