Elk River
Municipal Utilities
13069 Orono Parkway phone: 763.441.2020
Elk River. MN 55330 Fax 763.441 8099
October I1. 2004
To: Bryan Adams
From: Vance Zehringer
Subject: Commercial Rebate For Elk River Area Schools
Elk River Area Schools if applying for rebates totaling $17,989.25 for retrofitting a
number of electric energy use systems at Salk Middle School. Please find attached,
1. A rebate request for installation of 32 occupancy sensors at a project cost of
$6,024.64. Our rebate is $47 for ceiling mount occupancy sensors for a total
rebate of $1,504.
2. A rebate request for installation of 18 premium efficiency pump and fan motors in
the HVAC system. These motors are part of an HVAC system upgrade that cost
$279,500. Our rebate is $6.50 per horsepower for a total rebate of$1,485.25.
3. A rebate request for installation of 15 variable frequency drives (VFDs) at a
project cost of$27,500. Our rebate is $40 per horsepower for a total rebate of
$7,040. Our maximum rebate per customer for VFDs however, is $5,000, so that
is the rebate total approved for this project.
4. A rebate request for installation of 49 variable air volume (VAV) boxes as part of
the air distribution system. These VAVs replaced a constant air volume system so
they reduce energy consumption appreciably. Project cost was $37,275. Our
rebate is $260 per VAV box for a total rebate of$12,740. Our maximum rebate
per customer for VAV boxes however, is $10,000, so that is the total approved for
this project.
I have already run these requests by Connexus personnel, and they believe everything is
in order They also indicated that we can go over the original 2004 commercial allotment
of$14,071. They have not used up their allotment from GRE and GRE will be
reallocating funds that were not used by other utilities in the near future, so there's
adequate funds to continue pursuing new prospects as well.
