ElkMemorandum <br /> River <br /> To: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> From: Michael Hecker,Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Date: August 14,2013 <br /> Subject: Director's Report <br /> This report is a monthly highlight of our Department's activities informing the Commission <br /> on items related to collaborations, strategic planning, staff changes/ development, and park <br /> operations. <br /> Summer Concert Series <br /> We have seen some large capacity crowds at the Summer Concert Series this year. Staff <br /> estimates that at two of the concerts July 25 (Elvis) and August 1 (Rockin' Hollywoods) that <br /> we had a record crowd of 1,500 people and near the parks capacity. The August 8 (Killer <br /> Hayseeds) had a good crowd of over 1,100 people. Staff will be reviewing how to take <br /> advantage of the larger crowds and people setting up chairs earlier in the day. <br /> The last concert of the summer season is tomorrow August 15. It will be the first time for <br /> the band"Ladies of the 80's" to perform in Elk River. Staff plans to review the season to <br /> see how we can take advantage of the large consistent turnouts for the series. <br /> Recreation Coordinator <br /> Recreation Coordinator Jessica Converse will be introduced at the August 14 Parks and <br /> Recreation Commission meeting. <br /> Parks and Recreation 2014 Operating Budget <br /> The Parks 2014 operating budget was presented to City Council on August 8. Contractual <br /> Services is requested to increase for buckthom/invasive species removal ($10,000). Not <br /> included in the preliminary budget an additional request in the amount of$18,000 is being <br /> considered for Contractual Services for Horticulture and Tree expert services.Personal <br /> Services increases since the preliminary budget includes an additional park maintenance <br /> worker and additional seasonal staff.
