TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

MEMORANDUM

Mayor and City Council
Joan Schmidt, City Clerk
January 20, 2004

Request for Commercial Kennel License

Item #6.7A

Elk River Canine Connections, LLC. has made application for a commercial kennel license
to be located at 9948 Highway 10 N.W. The commercial kennel will be a dog daycare and
dog-training center with a daycare capacity limited to 15 dogs per day. Prior to this agenda
item, the Council reviewed a request from Maureen Ivers of Elk River Canine Connections,
LLC. for a conditional use permit for this same issue. If Council approves the CUP, staff
recommends that the commercial kennel license also be approved.

Kennels are inspected by the Animal Control Officer on a yearly basis prior to renewal of
the license. This ensures that the applicant is meeting the requirements of the conditional
use permit and the conditions of the ordinance relating to commercial kennels.

ACTION REQUESTED
Approval of the Commercial Kennel license should be based on approval or denial of the
conditional use permit.
