Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION <br /> River <br /> TO ITEM NUMBER <br /> Mayor and City Council 4.8 <br /> AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br /> Consent June 17, 2013 Mark Thompson, Street <br /> Superintendent <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br /> Resolution Awarding Contract in 2013 Seal Coat Improvement Suzanne Fischer,Director Community <br /> Project Operations and Development;Tim <br /> Simon,Finance Director <br /> REVIEWED BY <br /> Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> ACTION REQUESTED <br /> Adopt by motion a resolution awarding the 2013 Seal Coat Project to Pearson Brothers Inc. in the <br /> amount of$382,753.74 and authorize the execution of the contract. <br /> BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br /> As authorized at the June 18, 2012, City Council meeting, staff prepared plans and advertised the 2012 <br /> Seal Coat Improvements Project. Construction bids were received on Tuesday,July 10, 2012. The three <br /> bids received are summarized below: <br /> Pearson Bros.,Inc. $382,753.74 <br /> Allied Blacktop Company $388,596.08 <br /> Caldwell Asphalt Co. Inc. $420,433.92 <br /> Staff recommends awarding the project to Pearson Brothers Inc. who was the lowest responsible bidder. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT <br /> The project bid was separated into two sections; fog sealing of trails and crack filling and seal coating of <br /> streets. The bid for fog sealing of the trails was $3,000. The 2013 Park Improvement Fund includes <br /> budget for this expenditure. <br /> The budgeted amount for crack filling and seal coating is $409,750.00. The Streets Division has already <br /> spent$25,097 of this year's budget to purchase seal coating aggregate. This leaves a balance of$384,653 <br /> for the crack filling and seal coating contract. The bid received for crack filling and seal coating is <br /> $379,753.70. <br /> ATTACHMENTS <br /> ■ Resolution awarding and authorizing execution of the contract <br /> 1`4 <br />
