Elk ` - REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
TO ITEM NUMBER
Mayor and City Council 4.7
AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY
Consent May 20, 2013 Justin Femrite P.E., City Engineer
ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By
Authorization to Solicit Bids for the 2013 Seal Coat Project Suzanne Fischer, Community
Operations and Development Director
REVIEWED BY
Mark Thompson, Street Superintendent
ACTION REQUESTED
Authorize by motion, staff to solicit bids for the 2013 Seal Coat Project.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
As part of our annual street maintenance program, staff has prepared plans for the 2013 seal coating
project. The attached figure shows the areas programed to be seal coated in 2013.
The Plan includes an alternate to crack fill streets scheduled to be seal coated in 2014. It will only be
considered if the budget allows. With the alternate bid, staff can evaluate the cost of the work and
determine if it is more cost effective to contract or self-perform the crack filling in the future.
In addition to the seal coating of the streets,we have worked with the Parks Maintenance Division to
include an item in the bidding documents to complete fog sealing of selected trail segments under the
same contract. By combining these maintenance projects,we hope to receive more favorable bids on the
trail maintenance work than if it were to be contracted separately.
Upon approval of this item, staff will advertise the project for bidding and bring the lowest responsible
bid back to the City Council for approval.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The budget for the 2013 Seal Coat program is $389,750. The plans include provisions to eliminate areas
from the project if the budgets are less than the final bid.
ATTACHMENTS
■ 2013 Seal Coating Map
P U w € R E O R Y
NAYUREJ
