Rolfe, Chief of Police <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br /> <br />Promote Patrol Sergeant <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br /> <br />Approve by motion the promotion of Officer Brian Boos to Patrol Sergeant, effective April 2, 2013. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />With the retirement of Sergeant Jeff Mordal on March 30, 2013, a vacancy exists in the position of Patrol <br />Sergeant. A thorough internal selection process has been completed to identify a replacement for this <br />position. Officer Brian Boos has been selected as the most qualified for the position. <br /> <br />Officer Boos is a 15-year veteran of the police department. He holds a BA degree in criminal justice <br />from St. Cloud State University. Officer Boos has worked in the Patrol Division for his entire career. He <br />served as a department canine officer from 2001to 2008. He has been a police department field training <br />officer for 13 years. Officer Boos is a member of the Honor Guard. <br /> <br />Officer Boos is the recipient of several awards and commendations including 2 Lifesaving Awards (most <br />recently for removing a suicidal person from the path of an approaching commuter train), 2 Meritorious <br />Service Awards, 5 Unit Citations, 2 certificates of appreciation, and a letter of recognition. He has also <br /> <br />received the K-9 Service Ribbon, Field Training Service Ribbon, and Honor Guard Ribbon. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />This is a budgeted position.
