Rolfe, Chief of Police <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br /> Jeff Mordal Retirement Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY <br /> ACTION REQUESTED <br /> Read the attached proclamation and present the plaque to Sergeant Jeff Mordal in recognition of <br /> his retirement from the Police Department. <br /> BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br /> Sergeant Jeff Mordal is retiring after more than 34 years of service with the Elk River Police <br /> Department. Jeff joined the Elk River Police Reserves on October 1, 1978,at 18 years old. <br /> While attending college to attain his law enforcement degree,he worked as a part-time Elk River <br /> police officer. Upon completing his law enforcement training,Jeff was hired as the police <br /> department's 9th full time officer on October 1, 1983. He was promoted to Corporal on October <br /> 7, 1985,and Patrol Sergeant on January 1, 1992. <br /> Sergeant Mordal has played an integral role in the development of the modem Elk River Police <br /> Department and has served in numerous capacities over the course of his career. <br /> Sergeant Mordal has received numerous awards, commendations,and letters of recognition <br /> during his career. He is one of only two recipients of the Medal of Valor, the department's highest <br /> award. <br /> The chief of police will present an overview of Sergeant Mordal's career prior to the Mayor's <br /> proclamation and presentation of the plaque. After the Mayor's presentation, the chief of police <br /> will present Sergeant Mordal with the 2013 departmental Chiefs Award in recognition of his <br /> lengthy career and numerous contributions to the police department. The Chiefs Award is given <br /> once annually to a Police Department employee who demonstrates exceptional ability, <br /> achievement,initiative, dedication to duty,or courage in carrying out the mission of the Elk River <br /> Police Department. <br /> ATTACHMENTS <br /> • Proclamation <br />
