Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION <br /> River <br /> TO ITEM NUMBER <br /> Mayor and City Council 8.5 <br /> AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br /> General Business March 4, 2013 Jeremy Barnhart, Planning Manager <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br /> 2013-2014 Visioning Update Suzanne Fischer, Community <br /> Operations &Development Director <br /> REVIEWED BY <br /> Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> ACTION REQUESTED <br /> Receive information. <br /> BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br /> Since the last update on August 13, 2012, staff has been updating the Goals and Action steps for the <br /> 2013-2014 period. <br /> The Council may recall the goals were identified as: <br /> Innovation-Develop new programs and services to meet community needs. <br /> Community Development- Enhance and expand community involvement and public participation <br /> through a variety of innovative outlets. <br /> Beautification- Have attractive,welcoming streetscapes at city entrances and primary corridors. Enforce <br /> Zoning Ordinances. <br /> Opportunities- Foster a pro-business atmosphere that provides incentives and other opportunities for <br /> new and existing business growth. <br /> Strategic Planning <br /> Staff amended the Strategic Planning goal to read: "Planning and Positioning. Employ resources <br /> toward long range benefit to the community". It was felt that the entire vision process is a strategic plan, <br /> and more focus was necessary for goal identification. <br /> The attached worksheet shows the Action Steps agreed to by management staff. Currently,individual <br /> departments are meeting to identify tasks to be accomplished in the next 21 months.
