44h klk REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
To ITEM NUMBER
Parks and Recreation Commission 8.1.
AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY
Action Items October 10, 2012 Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation
Director
ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED BY
Parks and Facilities Naming Policy Cal Fortner, City Administrator
REVIEWED BY
ACTION REQUESTED
Approve the attached Naming Policy for City Council to review and approve.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the September 10, 2012 Parks and Recreation Commission work session meeting, the proposed parks
and facilities naming policy was discussed. Based on that discussion, minor changes to the proposed
policy have been made and are indicated in yellow highlights. The reason for the policy is to establish a
consistent approach for the official naming of parks and recreational facilities.
As a reminder, staff researched the current City policies and found that no official policy exists. Due to
the absence of an official policy, staff did some research and benchmarking of municipalities' best
practices. Staff was then able to draft a sample parks and facilities naming policy for the Commission to
review and eventually make recommendations to City Council.
ATTACHMENTS
• Parks and Facilities Naming Policy Draft
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
1P a R D tat BY
NATURE
I
