MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Mayor and City Council Phil Hals, Street/Parks Superintende~-~ May 21, 1998 Update on Work Schedules and Request for Additional Employees Attached is a proposed schedule of major tasks for this department that was developed prior to the windstorm of May 15, 1998 and also a modified schedule that includes the brush pick up. Some of the items on this schedule must be done in a specific time period, so I tried to adjust the schedule accordingly. The following list includes some of our tasks that could be contracted. All of the contractors that I contacted are extremely busy this time of year, which may be reflected in their prices. Lion's Park (Boys and Girls Club) Fill Material Option 1 - Contractor to furnish and deliver (City to place and compact). $ 7,980.00 Option 2 - Contractor to load & deliver (City to furnish, place & compact) 6,000.00 · Brush Clean-up - Loader, 2 trucks, & 1 laborer for 2 weeks $14,000.00 · Shoulder Restoration & Seeding - Greenheads & Countryside Acres $ 1,500.00 · Library & Police Parking Lot Expansion Tree removal and subgrade preparation $ 3,240.00 One partial solution to our dilemma would be to hire a full time Maintenance I employee now instead of 1999. This early hire could help with the summer workload and allow us time to train this person prior to the snow season. I would also like to request permission to hire one additional summer employee.
