The wastewater division
has re-jetted these sections of pipe with a root cutter a number of different times. The root cutting
operation is a temporary ftx to assure the pipe does not clog. Once the roots have found a way into the
pipe they will keep re-growing in the pipeline until the pipe is either slip lined or replaced. The process
of slip lining will prevent the roots from re-entering the pipe line. The slip lining will also seal the pipe
line to prevent any infiltration of clean ground water into the pipe line. We have chosen to slip line these
sections because it can be done at a lower cost than full replacement, and with no surface disruption. The
slip lining company will set up at a manhole and insert an uncured resin infused fiberglass membrane into
the existing pipe. They then use steam to heat the new pipe up to 180 degrees and it cures the pipe lining
in place.
Staff obtain four quotes for the project as listed below:
^ Insituform - $56,882.40
^ Visu-Sewer - $62,488.50
^ Lametti - $72,350
^ Veit - $81,150
Staff is recommending the project be awarded to Insituform in the amount of $56,882.40.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The 2012 Wastewater Budget currently has $70,000 in capital outlay for this work to be completed.
ATTACHMENTS
None
Action Motion by Second by Vote
PRiMERE~ RT
N:\I'ublic Bodies\City Council\Council RCA\Agenda Packet\07-1G-2012\Slip lining request sheet.docs ~~~~, !~~
