BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION As authorized at the June 18, 2012, City Council meeting, staff prepared plans and advertised the 2012 Seal Coat Improvements Project. Construction bids were received on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. There were a total of two bids received which are summarized as follows: Pearson Bros., Inc. $340,746.65 Allied Blacktop Company $333,745.46 We recommend awarding the project to Allied Blacktop Company who was the lowest responsible bidder. Allied Blacktop has completed other seal coat projects for the city and the street division has been satisfied with their previous work. FINANCIAL IMPACT The project bid was broke down into two sections: fog sealing of trails and seal coating of streets. The bid fox fog sealing of the trails was $16,632.10. The 2012 Park Improvement Fund included $20,000 for this work. The budgeted amount for seal coating streets including impact fees is $372,750.00. The streets division has already spent $37,630.80 of this budget in the purchase of the seal coating aggregate. This has left a budget for the street seal coating contract of $335,119.20. The bid received for seal coating the streets is $317,113.36. Both sections of the project are below the budgeted amounts.
