As predicted, the
extreme west end of the lake is mostly sandy material and the remainder of this lobe had
somewhat mixed results. Staff is still hopeful that 90,000 cubic yards of sandy material
can be obtain from the western lobe of the lake, even if it is all from the far western end.
Sediment high in organic material (muck) can be graded into where the sandy material is
excavated from to achieve an average three foot depth in this entire lobe. This
contingency has been accounted for in the plans and specifications.

The make up of the sediment excavated is only important on the Hartman, Bickman, and
Wapiti Park disposal sites, where future development is anticipated. These three sites
account for the bulk of the disposal; 90,000 cubic yards. The make up of the sediment is
not of issue on the Orono Cemetery, Island View, and Tim Smith alternative disposal
sites.

If 90,000 cubic yards of sandy material can not be found in the western lobe, the project
may have to be down sized. We will not totally have an answer on this question until we
start digging.

13065 Orono Parkway · RO.
