Officer Boos arrived within one minute of being
dispatched. Upon his arrival, Officer Boos did not immediately see anyone on the tracks. As he
began walking east he noticed a person lying in a fetal position on the eastbound tracks,
approximately 75-100 yards east of Main Street. At the same time, Officer Boos heard a train whistle
to the west. When he looked to the west, he observed the headlight of an approaching Northstar
commuter train. Officer Boos began running to the person lying motionless on the tracks. Upon
reaching the woman, Officer Boos grabbed her by the arm, pulled her from the tracks, and covered
her with his body. The commuter train, en route to a Twins game, passed them within 10-20 seconds
of Officer Boos pulling the woman from the tracks. The woman, though uninjured, was transported
by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation. She admitted to intending to commit suicide. Officer
Boos' prompt action, at significant risk to himself, undoubtedly saved this woman's life.
Chief Rolfe will be presenting Officer Boos the Elk River Police Department Lifesaving Award.
ATTACHMENTS
None
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
