Item: 6 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />ver <br />TO: Parks and Recreation Commission <br />FROM: Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br />DATE: June 8, 2012 <br />SUBJECT: Director's Report <br />This report is a highlight of our Department's activities to inform the Commission on items related <br />to strategic planning, staff development, park operations and collaborations during the past month. <br />Bailey Point <br />We have set a tentative timeline fox closing on Bailey Point fox July. <br />City_Reorganization Plan <br />A Council work session on the City organizational structure was held on May 21. The changes to <br />the original organizational structure create a hybrid department and a movement of a few existing <br />activities to new areas. The hybrid department consists of public works and community <br />development with a director position. The other department structure changes include the Fire <br />Department, Finance Department and Building Safety. The direct changes to the Parks and <br />Recreation Department include the following: <br />• Transition Parks and Recreation Marketing Coordinator to Communications Coordinator <br />• Transition Planner/Park Planner full time to a Paxk Planner and visual communications <br />• Transition the Senior Centex Manager responsibilities under the Recreation Manager <br />position <br />Sue Kostanshek Retirement & Senior Center Services <br />Sue Kostanshek officially retired on June 7, 2012. The City had a daylong celebration of activities <br />on June 7 to recognize Sue's 27-years of service to the Ciry. Hundreds of citizens and staff attended <br />a celebration in the morning at the Senior Centex and then an Open House at the Activity Center. <br />City Council will recognize Sue at the upcoming June 18 meeting -when hex son comes to visit <br />from Mongolia. <br />As part of the City reorganization plan, the City will continue to provide quality services for the <br />seniors at the Activity Centex, while some of the responsibilities at the Senior Center at 350 Evans <br />will decrease. The Senior Centex division, including the part time employees, Annette Bonin and <br />Natalie Anderson, who axe now working full time temporarily have become under the responsibility <br />of the Recreation Manager Steve Benoit. The Recreation Division will now include the Senior <br />Centex staff and programs. <br />
