Rolfe, Chief of Police <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED BY <br />Hue Police Officer Cal Portner, Ci Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Council authorization to hire entry level police officer Joseph Fixkus. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />Since the retirement of former Police Chief Jeff Beahen at the end of 2010, an unfilled police officer <br />vacancy has existed in the Police Department. Early in 2012, the Council gave authorization to <br />proceed with the selection process to fill this vacancy. <br />After an exhaustive process which screened over 300 applicants, Joseph Firkus of Zimmerman <br />emerged as the top candidate. Officer Fixkus cuxxendy works as a part-time police officer for the City <br />of Becker. He has successfully completed a background investigation and psychological and physical <br />exams. <br />The requested first date of employment is Monday, June 18, 2012. This hiring will bring sworn <br />department staff to 31 officers. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />This is a budgeted, entry level position.
