Dave Anderson and Michael Hecker met with Gina at
Woodland Trails Park on Apri13 to discuss the need for a plan. The plan would be the first steps in
initiating an ecological management plan that would have a primary, long term objective of controlling
the buckthorn, mamtaining forest cover and in time, restoring native herbs, shrubs and trees as needed.
The proposed plan would be funded through a grant for $75,000 with the Mimiesota DNR. The City will
not be required to match or financially contribute toward the grant. Gina will need a letter of support
from the Commission and then City Council to develop an RFP for the overall plan. The RFP will
request a grant to implement an ecologically sensitive biomass harvest that will clean up the downed
timber, selective harvest poor fom~, potential hazard and "noncontributing" trees- as well as bucluhom.
If the Commission approves the plan, then Gina will make a presentation to City Council in May.
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
PRNEREI 11
N:\Departments\Pads and Recreation\Recreazion\2012 PRC Packeu\411-12 PRC Packet\8.2 Ecological Management (~,~ ~ w ~~~~
Plan for Woodland Ttads.docx ryH
