BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION The EDA owns 76 acres southwest of the Northstar Commuter Rail line, on the east side of US Hwy 10 & US Hwy 169. Staff research has shown that over the past seven years, this area has been called Gateway Business Park and Gateway Business Centex. The EDA and City Council recently approved moving forward with the first phase of improvements to this area in the spring of 2012, to provide infrastructure to open up lots for development (approximately 29 gross acres, 15 buildable). In conjunction with the redesign of the economic development marketing materials, staff will be putting together marketing information to promote this area. Per the community brand plan implementation approved by the EDA and City Council in September of 2011, staff is recommending changing the name of Gateway Business Center/Park to a name which represents the community brand, Powered by Nature. The brand plan provides the following recommendation which supports a name change: Advocate for Facility. Venue and Infrastructure Branding- Ident~ public orprivate facilities and venues that can be easily and affordably branded... there are doyens of branding opportunities at city parks, facilities, business parks and dosvntozvn that can be tackled immediately. Staff has had several discussions regarding a potential name change, and solicited ideas from branding consultant chandlerthinks.
