REQUEST FOR ACTION
TO ITEM NUMBER
Ma ox and Ci Council 4.3
AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY
Consent February 6, 2012 Gary Lore, Building Maintenance
Su ervisor
ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By
Authorization to Purchase 2012 Ford F-350 Chassis Cab Truck Mark Thompson, Fleet Committee
and Utility Box Chair
Tim Simon, Finance Director
REVIEWED BY
Cal Portner, Ci Administrator
ACTION REQUESTED
Authorization to purchase 2012 F-350 Ford Chassis Cab Truck from Midway Ford and a Knapheide
KUVCC Series Utility Body from Truck Utilities, Inc.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Building Maintenance Division is seeking authorization to replace the 1991 Chevy 3/a ton utility
pickup that was purchased used from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for $1,500 in
1996. This vehicle has served its purpose, however, it has increasing mechanical problems, the utility box
leaks and is rusting.
Midway Ford has the 2012 state contract for the chassis cab in the amount of $23,703.54. Truck Utilities,
Inc. has the state contract for the utility box in the amount of $12,730.95. The Ford truck was the
cheapest of the options and is uniform with most of the city fleet. The 1991 Chevy will go to auction and
the proceeds will go back to the Equipment Replacement Fund.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
These items are budgeted in the Equipment Replacement Fund in the amount of $60,000. The total
amount of the purchase will be $36,434.49, a difference of $23,565.51. The reason for the large budget
savings is because we originally were looking for a truck with a lift bucket attachment. Since that time, Elk
River Municipal Utilities has offered to assist us with our high angle work.
ATTACHMENTS
^ 2012 Equipment Fund List
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
N:\Public Bodies\City Council\Council RCA\Agenda Packet\02-06-2012\Truck Purchase.docx
