MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL ELK RIVER <br />HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />AT THE ELK RIVER CITY HALL <br />Thursday, September 9, 2010 <br />Members present: Debra Mortensen, Kristin Harris, and Mazk Konietzko <br />Members absent: Chair Lance Lindberg, Stephen Rohlf <br />Staff Present: Environmental Administrator, Rebecca Haug <br />Others Present: Matt Westgaard <br />11 Meeting called to Order. <br />Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Vice Chair <br />Debra Mortenson. <br />21 Goals & Priorities <br />Suggestion by Commissioner Konietzko to reduce the number of oral interviews to be <br />conducted in 2010. Commissioner Harris offered to contact teachers at the Elk River High <br />School to have students conduct interviews. Ms. Haug offered to contact the MN School of <br />Business, Spectrum Charter School and Activity Center for volunteers to conduct interviews. <br />There was also discussion of having a book signing at the Elk River Library. Commissioner <br />Mortenson offered to make posters displaying various pictures from the Elk River photo- <br />essay book to be displayed at the park downtown and other locations throughout the City. <br />Councilmember Westgaazd suggested that the HPC identify and categorize priority <br />properties throughout the City. Discussion followed regarding Bailey Point being <br />considered by the City Council at the September 13, 2010 Woxksession and the historic <br />significance of the property to the City. Also, the HPC discussed the possibilities for <br />educational opportunities at the site. Councilmember Westgaard also suggested adding <br />Stewart Wilson, Jim and John Babcock to the list of people to be interviewed.
