Klaers, City ~~istrator
January 5, 1998 ~

SUBJECT: Review January- April City Council
Meeting Schedule

All Councilmembers should bring their calendars to this meeting so that we
can map out our meeting schedule for the next few months. The Capital
Improvement Program (CIP) meetings and the joint meetings with various
groups and boards are the two main scheduling issues which need to be
addressed.

First and foremost, all Councilmembers should note that we will not be
meeting on the third Monday of January or the third Monday of February
and that these regular Council meetings have been scheduled for the third
Tuesday of each month. Accordingly, please write into your schedule
Tuesday, January 20 and Tuesday, February 17 as City Council meetings.
These two meetings are the Planning and Zoning public hearing meetings.

Regarding the CIP schedule, the first CIP worksession is scheduled for
Monday, January 5, 1998. The topic of this meeting is development issues
and it is anticipated that this meeting will need to be continued to January
12, 1998, after the EDA meeting. We will have to decide at that time how
many additional special worksessions are needed on this topic.

The fourth Monday of January (1/26/98) and the first Monday of February
(2/2/98) are scheduled for the more typical or general CIP meetings. These
meetings will be similar to what were held in the past few years where all
equipment, street, utilities, buildings, land acquisitions, etc. capital needs
are looked at, prioritized and, in general, decided by the Council which ones
move forward in 1998 and which ones do not. At this time I do not anticipate
more than two meetings being necessary for this CIP work.

Typically the City Council tries to hold a joint meeting with the County
Board, School Board, Planning Commission, and Park & Recreation
Commission. Additionally, the Council may want to consider holding joint
meetings with the Utility Commission, Ice Arena Commission, Library

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
