TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />Pat Klaers, City Administrator <br /> <br />August I I, 2003 <br /> <br />Authorization to Hire for the City Clerk Position <br /> <br />Item # 5.2. <br /> <br />The City Clerk Interview Committee - Councilmembers Kuester and Motto, Finance Director Lori <br />Johnson, and myself- interviewed five applicants for the City Clerk position. A second round of <br />interviews was held with the top two candidates. At this dme, the committee is recommending to <br />the City Council that the city hire Joan Schmidt for the Elk River City Clerk position. <br /> <br />Joan is currently employed as the City Clerk for the City of Brooklyn Park and has been in this <br />position since June 1998. Between February 1997 and June 1998 Joan also worked for Brooklyn <br />Park as an Assessment Clerk and Administrative Secretary. Other work experience includes about 18 <br />months in the City of Excelsior as a Permit/Licensing Clerk and approximately 15 years in the City <br />of Crystal as an Office Assistant and Deputy Clerk. <br /> <br />Joan needs to give the City of Brooklyn Park four weeks notice. Joan has indicated that her <br />preferred start date with the City of Elk River is September 15, 2003, although she indicated that she <br />may be available on the proceeding Thursday or Friday (September 11 or 12) depending on how her <br />schedule works out. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />It is recommended that the City Council hire Joan Schmidt as the Elk River City Clerk beginning no <br />later than September 15, 2003 at the 2003 annual pay wage of $58,130.28. <br /> <br />S:\COUNCIL\Pat~2003~clerkhire.doc <br /> <br /> <br />
