ITEM 6 8. <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Parks and Recreation Commission <br />FROM: Michele Bergh, Recreation Manager <br />DATE: May 4, 2004 <br />SUBJECT: Staff Report <br />Hot Topic( of the Month <br />Lions Paxk Centex construction project was approved by Council in April. Work is being <br />coordinated and began May 5`h. The lion costume donated by the Elk River Lions arrived. <br />Our summer program guide hit the streets Apri17`h. Registration is in full swing for summer <br />programs. The Leadership Class sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce visited Lions <br />Park Centex and I did a presentation on what types of services our department provides as <br />well as doing a Yoga at Your Desk class. With the nice weather, we have had many requests <br />fox Hillside Seasonal Passes as well. The annual ice show takes place in May so April is busy <br />with planning and preparations. I also conducted training fox Girls Softball and certified <br />over 30 of their coaches with the National Youth Sports Coaches Association, which <br />provides them with additional liability insurance. <br />April Programs <br />During the month of ApxIl, the programs we had running were U Pass fitness classes, Egg <br />Hunt, Parent's Night Out, Tumbling -daytime and evening, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, <br />Pee Wee Basketball, Skating Academy and Breakaway Hockey. Breakaway Hockey serves <br />just under 300 participants so registration time is very busy for us. <br />Special Marketing Efforts <br />We used the Egg Hunt and our participation in the Lincoln and Meadowvale School <br />Carnivals fox special marketing this month. <br />Facility Use <br />We reserved 261 hours of use occarxing in ApxIl. Of this, 93 hours was fox Lions Paxk <br />Center. We axe still coordinating field use between the associations and ISD 728 as well. <br />
