Rolfe, Chief of Police <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED BY <br />Recognize Retirement of Karen Vernon Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Mayor and Council to present retirement plaque to Police Secretary/Receptionist Karen Vernon. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />Police Department Secretary/Receptionist Karen Vernon is retiring on May 31, 2011 after serving <br />the police department and community fox fourteen years. During her career, Karen was the <br />primary police department typist and transcriptionist, typing hundreds of police reports and <br />statements generated each year. Karen also served as backup receptionist, answering and routing <br />phone calls, monitoring radios, and serving as the first point of contact for walk-in police <br />department visitors. Karen has served as secretary of the Elk River Police Association. During her <br />career, Karen has earned two departmental Unit Citation awards. After retirement, Karen will <br />spend summers at her property near McGregor, MN. She will spend winters in Texas and New <br />Mexico near her three sons and grandchildren.
