~j <br />Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />River <br />TO ITEM NUMBER <br />Ci Council 3.2. <br />AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br />Consent May 9, 2011 Jessica Miller, Executive <br /> Secreta /De u Ci Clerk <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED BY <br />Proclamation Recognizing the Merits of Buddy Poppies Tina Allard, Ci Clerk <br /> REVIEWED BY <br /> Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Council motion proclauning recognition of the merits of buddy poppies. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />The Elk River -Rogers VFW #5518 Ladies Auxiliary requested the Council adopt a proclamation <br />recognizing the merits of buddy poppies and urging all patriotic citizens to wear a buddy poppy. Poppy <br />Day is May 13, 2011. <br />The Poppy has become traditional as the Memorial Day flower and as the symbol of remembrance for <br />the men and women who have lost their lives or health in the defense of their country. The Elk River - <br />Rogers VFW #5518 Ladies Auxiliary has pledged to remind America annually of this debt through the <br />distribution of the memorial flower.
