Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
TO ITEM NUMBER
Ci Council 6.2.
AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY
Worksession Februa 7, 2011 Tina Allard, Ci Clerk
ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By
Consider Changing Non-Mayoral Appointment Term Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator
Expirations REVIEWED BY
ACTION REQUESTED
Council direction on whether to proceed with preparing ordinance amendments for the six non-Mayoral
appointment commissions in order to change the term expirations from the last day of February to the
last day of December.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Currently, the three Mayoral appointment boards (EDA, HRA, and Library Board) have terms that expire
on the last day of December. The six non-Mayoral appointment commissions (Energy City, Heritage
Preservation, Ice Arena, Parks and Recreation, Planning, and Utilities Commission) have terms that
expire on the last day of February.
In conversations the city administrator has had with the Mayor, they have decided to bring this item to
the Council for consideration. The request is to discuss changing the expiration dates of the non-Mayoral
appointments to the last day of December in order for all of the boards and commissions to have the
same expiration dates. It should be noted that the term expirations for the non-Mayoral appointments
were amended in January 1999. Please see attached minutes for background on that change.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Term expirations are set in city ordinance. There would be six ordinance amendments with an
approximate publication cost of $550-600.
ATTACHMENTS
^ January 11, 1999 Council minutes
Morton by Second by Vote
Follow Up
N:\Public Bodies\Boards\Council Memos\2011\Term 1;xpirations.docx
