MEMORANDUM
TO: Park & Recreation Commission
FROM: Michele McPhersrector of Planning
DATE: February 5, 2004
SUBJECT: Pre-meeting Session, Park and Recreation Director Job Description
Review
Attachments
Revised Draft Paxk and Recreation Commission Job Description, Version 1
Revised Draft Paxk and Recreation Commission Job Description, Version 2
Attached, please find two versions of the revised draft job description for the Park and Recreation Director
position. I have compiled all of the commissioners' comments into one document reflected by the multi-
colored italic additions and the strikethrough language. Vexsion 1 utihzes the original draft's organization and
headings and is double-spaced. Version 2 has been organized into 13 core areas of responsibility. I have
attempted to edit this version to eliminate duplicate items and wording.
At the pre-meeting we will review each section of Version 2 and determine what should be kept, what should
be deleted, edit items, and review the minimum and preferred qualiEtcations.
While several commissioners commented that they preferred the layout or format of other job descriptions
reviewed, this format must be maintained for consistenry with other job descriptions in the City. I also was
unable to include Commissioner Anderson's request to reorganize the sections, hence the need to discuss the
organization of the essential functions of the position.
The schedule fox review and approval of the description is as follows
1. Approval of the final format at the February 11~h meeting
2. Personnel Committee reviews the description and sets initial salaray: February 23 -March 1.
3. Approval of the job description by the City Coundl -March 8.
4. Receipt of the final job description (Finance Department may add standard requirements as required
by law) by the Commission on March 10~h.
I plan to enlarge the pages of the job description to 24 x 36 and post them on the walls of the meeting room
so that they can be easIly read and edited by the group. Please review the job description prior to the meeting
so that you can identify your preference for additions, deletions, or clarifications.
Thank you for your attention to this issue.
S:Ylanning/MM/memo/P&R Di[ job desc[
