Item # 8.3.B.
ver
MEMORANDUM
TO: Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: September 14, 2005
SUBJECT: Woodland Trails Entrance Sign Change
Item:
Woodland Trails Entrance Sign Change
Background:
In January of 2005, the Park Commission reviewed plans for an entrance sign to Woodland
Trails Park. The sign had a field stone foundation and timbers supporting a sign panel. The
budgeted amount was $10,000. Initial quotes came in at $20,000. Staff worked with a local
Boy Scout who was going to attempt to raise money and construct the sign. Fundraising was
unsuccessful.
Staff has reworked the design to stay on budget. The landscaping around the sign could be
done as an Eagle Scout project. The estimate for this sign, installation, and landscaping
materials is $7,500. Staff believes that this new design is cost effective, references existing
city park signs and is easily reproducible in our other major parks. In addition, the previous
design was similar to several of the signs for developments that have gone up in the last year.
Changing the design will insure that the entrance to Woodland Trails Park will be unique and
identifiable.
Action Requested:
Approve the design of the Woodland Trails Park sign.
Attachment:
Sign Concept
