Item # 8.3.A.
ver
MEMORANDUM
TO: Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: September 8, 2005
SUBJECT: Advertising Signs at Orono Softball Complex
Item:
Advertising Signs at Orono Softball Complex
Background:
The Elk River Ice Arena sells advertising space inside the arena, with a profit of $15,000
per year. A contractor sells the space, designs and installs the signs for a percentage.
Recreation Coordinator Ross Demant is exploring the potential of using the same
contractor to sell advertising space on the outfield fence at the Orono softball complex.
Signs would have a uniform design standard and face inward towards home plate.
Standards would be developed regarding what type of products and services would be
permitted.
Action Requested:
Staff is looking for direction from the Parks and Recreation Commission as to whether
outfield fence advertising is an appropriate revenue source. If so, staff will explore the
revenue potential and wind load requirements for the fencing.
