Item # 8.4.A. <br />ver <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Parks and Recreation Commission <br />FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Commission <br />DATE: March 3, 2005 <br />SUBJECT: Top of the World Grant Applications <br />Last October staff submitted a grant application to the DNR 2004 Metro Greenways Site <br />Protection program, to help with funding the purchase of 80 acres adjacent to Top of the <br />World Park. Our application has made it through the initial review process and is being <br />strongly considered. Staff is currently preparing applications for two additional grants. <br />• Remediation Fund Grant Program -The program provides funds to acquire, protect <br />and restore natural resources. Funds are from the Closed Landfill Remediation <br />Program. Up to $500,000 per grant is available with no match required. <br />• Natural and Scenic Areas Grant -The program assists local governments and <br />school districts in acquiring fee title acquisition and permanent easement <br />acquisition of natural and scenic areas. Up to $500,000 with a local match <br />required. <br />Parks and Recreation staff and planning staff will be meeting with representatives of the <br />Tiller Corporation on March 9 and will present an update at the Park Commission meeting <br />that evening. <br />
