ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES March 28, 2000 <br />Robert Jones, Chair absent <br />Eleanor Holm, Vice Chair present <br />Geraldine Graham, Secretary present <br />Leslie Anderson present <br />Mike Hangaard present <br />Guest present: Lee Berg, Cultural Arts Director, Boys & Girls Club of Elk River <br />Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian; Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL <br />Meeting called to order at 6:35pm by Eleanor Holm. <br />It was determined that a Quorum was present. <br />Lee Berg described special events that will take place during National Boys & Girls Club week (April 9- <br />12, 2000), and requested that the Elk River Public Library participate by hosting a Youth Art Exhibit <br />on April 1 l & 12, 2000. The artwork will be created by youth ages 6-18 who attend the Elk River Boys <br />& Girls Club. Approved unanimously. <br />Action re: Minutes of February 22, 2000 meeting: A motion was made by Anderson and seconded by <br />Holm to approve minutes of February 22, 2000 meeting. Approved unanimously. (Note: Nov. 23, <br />1999 minutes had been postponed and were not acted upon on 3/28/00.) <br />Stoffers reported no suggestions from the suggestion box. She distributed correspondence <br />regarding MLA Trustees Day at the annual MLA conference on Sept. 29, 2000. <br />Treasurer's Report: Stoffers distributed a balance sheet for year end 1999. Graham made a motion, <br />seconded by Anderson, to accept Treasurer's report of February 28, 2000, and the 1999 balance <br />sheet. Approved unanimously. <br />Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers: <br />Old Business: New shelving has been ordered. Clock repair is in process. New fiberglass <br />ladder has been ordered. New directional signs have been installed. Nearly all repairs required by <br />recent fire code inspection are complete; fire extinguisher signs have been ordered and will be <br />installed as soon as they arrive. New marker board has been installed in community room. Graham <br />gave the librarian an acknowledgement sign to install on the new microfilm reader/printer to <br />recognize financial donors. Graham has made some contacts with local newspaper to pursue news <br />article about the library -- hoping to coordinate with National Libraries Week in April. <br />New Business: Stoffers encouraged Library Board members to attend Volunteer Recognition <br />dinner hosted by City of Elk River. She distributed copies of Great River Regional Library System's <br />Long Range Plan. She discussed need for better storage & display of CD's and Teen Magazines. <br />Graham made a motion, seconded by Holm, that Stoffers seek approval from City of Elk River to re- <br />allocate this year's budget monies (originally designated for purchase of microfilm reader/printer, <br />which was purchased through private sector donations) for purchase of needed storage and shelving <br />equipment. <br />Oleksowicz reported that GRRL is preparing Public Service Announcements for local media to <br />announce new policy of using collection agency to help retrieve overdue materials and collect <br />payment for unreturned materials. Additionally, when GRRL issues the second overdue notice, a <br />notation about the use of the collection agency is included. <br />He also reported the GRRL recently received special funds that will be used to furnish each <br />branch library with a new laser printer for staff use. Installation at each branch will occur in the near <br />future. <br />Motion to adjourn made by Anderson, seconded by Graham. Approved unanimously.
