ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES May 23, 2000 <br />Robert Jones, Chair present <br />Eleanor Holm, Vice Chair present <br />Geraldine Graham, Secretary present <br />Leslie Anderson present <br />Mike Hangaard present <br />Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian; Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL <br />Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Robert Jones. <br />It was determined that a Quorum was present. <br />Action re: Minutes of Nov. 23, 1999 meeting: A motion was made by Holm and seconded by <br />Jones to approve minutes of Nov. 23, 1999 meeting. Approved unanimously. <br />Action re: Minutes of April 25, 2000 meeting. A motion was made by Hangaard and <br />seconded by Holm to approve minutes of April 25, 2000 meeting. Approved unanimously. <br />Correspondence: Stoffers distributed a registration form for Library Trustees to join the <br />Minnesota Library Association if they desire. The membership fee of $19 would be covered <br />by the library's operating budget. Membership benefits include periodic mailings from MLA <br />and a reduced fee for attending the annual statewide conference. <br />There were no suggestions from the public suggestion box. <br />Treasurer's Report: Holm made a motion, seconded by Hangaard, to accept Treasurer's <br />report of April 25, 2000. Approved unanimously. <br />Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers: <br />Old Business: Two bids have been received for annual maintenance of the microfilm <br />reader-printer. Bid #1 - $575 for the Canon MP 90 + $250 for the Roll Fiche Carrier 200. <br />Bid #2 $400 for the Canon MP 90 + $100 for the Roll Fiche Carrier 200. The librarian will <br />enter into an agreement for 12 months of service with the company submitting Bid #2. <br />For repair of countertop edging, a request has been made to the company that <br />originally constructed the countertop, however, they have not followed through in sending a <br />repair person to the library. The librarian will continue to contact the company for repairs. <br />Budget for 2001: Stoffers distributed a first draft of the 2001 Library Operating <br />Budget and explained each line item and how the projected budget figures were determined. <br />For several line items, estimated budget figures are not yet available -- Stoffers is either <br />waiting for bids or estimates from various sources. Some of the larger cost line items that <br />are new or different in 2001 include: <br />0 new vacuum cleaner purchase <br />0 removal of old, damaged window caulking, re-caulking of all windows, and exterior <br />painting of windows, trim and doors <br />0 draperies for community room and certain windows of the library <br />By the June Library Board meeting, it's expected that this draft budget will be complete and <br />can be considered by the Board for approval. The City of Elk River would like to have the <br />library's projected 2001 budget by July. <br />Jones requested clarification about last month's discussion related to the library's <br />interest in purchasing any adjacent real estate that comes up for sale in the future.
