ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
Robert Jones, Chair
Eleanor Holm, Vice Chair
Geraldine Graham, Secretary
Leslie Anderson
Mike Hangaard
Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian;
absent
present
present
present
absent
Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL
July 25, 2000
Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Eleanor Holm.
It was determined that a Quorum was present.
Action re: Minutes of May 23, 2000 meeting: A motion was made by Anderson and
seconded by Holm to approve minutes of May 23, 2000 meeting. Approved unanimously.
Correspondence: None. There were no suggestions from the public suggestion box.
Treasurer's Report: Graham made a motion, seconded by Anderson, to accept Treasurer's
report of June 30, 2000. Approved unanimously.
Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers:
Old Business: Stoffers has made several attempts to get Anderson Cabinets
scheduled to repair the countertop edging, but the repair person never arrives when
scheduled. Leslie Anderson will call local cabinet makers to determine if another company
can repair the countertop edge and coordinate such repairs with Stoffers.
Budget for 2001: Robert Jones and Mick Stoffers attended budget meeting with city
officials in July. Line items which were not known at last board meeting are as follows:
Outside painting of specific areas on the building $765; Painting of fences $325; Draperies
for community room and reading area $2800 (includes rods, and installation). Insurance
line item is still not known. A change for next year: Public Works will charge for actual
hours of service, rather than calculate a percentage of its total budget for services Public
Works provides to the library.
New Business:
The City Council approved the purchase of CD bins and magazine shelving, using capital
outlay funds which were unspent due to grant funding secured for purchase of microfilm
reader/printer.
Recent repairs completed: Public Works has weeded the rock areas and replaced a light
in the parking lot; has been notified that dead tree needs removal. The automatic door
opener was repaired. Surge protectors are being installed in city buildings. It's been
learned that the library needs three surge protectors, rather than just one originally
expected. If needed, the library's reserve fund will cover the extra expense.
Oleksowicz reported previously that the Elk River Library was in discussions with
Sherburne Telco (phone company) for high speed INTERNET access, however, instead it now
appears that Great River Regional Library System will be applying for four additional T1 lines
through a government Telecommunications Access Grant Program. He also reported that
the public can now renew books via the GRRL website, www.griver.org. Also related to the
Page 1 of 2
