ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES September 26, 2000
Robert Jones, Chair absent
Eleanor Holm, Vice Chair present
Geraldine Graham, Secretary present
Leslie Anderson present
Mike Hangaard present
Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian
Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Eleanor Holm.
It was determined that a Quorum was present.
Action re: Minutes of August 22, 2000 meeting: A motion was made by Anderson and
seconded by Hangaard to approve minutes of August 22, 2000 meeting. Approved
unanimously.
Correspondence: None. There were no suggestions from the public suggestion box.
Treasurer's Report:
Graham made a motion, seconded by Anderson, to accept Treasurer's report of
August 31 , 2000. Approved unanimously.
Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers:
Old Business: The company "Fresh Top" provided estimate of $363 to repair
countertop and has Elk River Library scheduled in October.
Board members discussed at length their concerns about a parking lot light that has
not yet been repaired, in spite of repeated requests to the city over many months' time.
This light is in the staff parking area and when it's not working, poses a safety threat for
staff who are closing the building at night. Graham reported that she talked with the head
of Public Works to tell him about the Board's high priority placed on this repair; and she was
told that Public Works would attend to the matter, however, two weeks have passed and it's
still not resolved. The Board discussed the possibility of notifying Elk River police to request
patrols in the area at library closing time until this light is repaired. Stoffers will contact
Public Works again to check the status of this repair request.
The compact disk holders have been ordered.
New Business:
Stoffers explained a problem recently discovered with the book drop and asked Board
members to examine the book drop box and suggest an approach for repairing it. Hangaard
examined and suggested attaching quarter-round trim to edge of base. Stoffers will request
this repair from Public Works.
Stoffers reported that an owner of an adjacent property to the library parking lot may be
interested in making arrangements for a life estate or some other sale of the property to the
library. The city's legal department is exploring possible options and will negotiate with the
owner. Stoffers passed out the recent issues of "Linking Library Trustees," a publication of
the Minnesota Library Trustee Association.
Meeting adjourned at 7:OOpm.
Respectfully submitted,
Geraldine Graham, Secretary
