ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES November 28, 2000
Robert Jones, Chair present
Eleanor Holm, Vice Chair present
Geraldine Graham, Secretary present
Leslie Anderson present
Mike Hangaard absent
Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian
Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Robert Jones.
It was determined that a Quorum was present.
It was decided to combine the agendas from the October meeting (which was
cancelled) and the November meeting.
Action re: Minutes of September 26, 2000 meeting: A motion was made by Holm and
seconded by Anderson to approve minutes of September 26, 2000 meeting. Approved
unanimously.
Correspondence: None. There were no suggestions from the public suggestion box.
Treasurer's Reports of September 30, 2000 and October 31, 2000:
The Board noted that on the Reserve/Balance Report, the Current Cash Asset (#1010)
was $15,705.60 less in October than September. This is also reflected in the Change in
Fund Balance (#2600) for the two months. The Board asked the librarian to find out why
this occurred and report at the next meeting. There was also discussion of the
Unencumbered Balance of $14,384.26 and whether or not it would be enough to cover two
more months of operating expenses. Stoffers said that contractual service had been
running higher than anticipated through the year, due to rising rates charged by performers
and presenters. The Board tabled approval of the September 30, 2000 and October 31,
2000 Treasurer's reports until learning why the amount shown in Reserve Fund decreased.
Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers:
Old Business: The company "Fresh Top," which was scheduled to repair damaged
counter top in October, did not arrive and has been rescheduled for November 30, 2000_
The parking lot light in the staff parking area has been replaced and operates on a timer.
One of the library staff has repaired the book drop.
New Business:
Friends of the Library agreed to purchase additional video shelves, because the video
collection is now staying at the library longer and needs more shelf space. The Friends of
the Library also arranged for Faith Sullivan to speak at the library on Valentine's Day in
February 2001 (6:30pm). Pre-registration will be required.
A new vacuum cleaner has been purchased and will be covered out of the 2001
budget, where it was budgeted for. Bob Jones reported that another parking lot light is not
functioning near the northeast end of the lot. The librarian will make a repair request to
public works.
Two Board members who attended the annual Minnesota Library Association
Conference in September reported on the seminars they attended (related to architectural
design of library buildings and governance structures for public libraries).
There will be no meeting December 2000. Next meeting is January 23, 2001.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm.
Respectfully submitted,
eraldine Graham, Secretary
