TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

MEMORANDUM

Mayor and Council

Pat Klaers, City Administrator

July 14, 2003

Transitional Housing

Item # 5.9.

At the June 23, 2003, City Council meeting, a motion was made to have the city work with
Love Elk River for the leasing of the Bailey house for a one year period. This motion was
tabled until the July 14, 2003, meeting. Accordingly, this motion (to enter into a leasing
arrangement for use of the Bailey house for one year with Love Elk River) is back before the
Council.

Councilmember Diem, who has some personal history with this house, will not be in
attendance at this july 14 meeting. Therefore it is recommended that this agenda item and
motion that is before the City Council again be tabled until the next City Council meeting on
July 21, 2003.

Part of the discussion on June 23, 2003, related to an inspection of the house in order to
determine if the basement bedrooms met code for f~re exits (through the windows). This has
not taken place due to a variety of vacations, but hopefully can be scheduled for July 21
when Councilmember Dietz is available. Also, Councilmember Mofin requested for some
additional financial information and I believe he has visited directly with the finance director
regarding his issues.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council continue consideration of the motion introduced
on June 23, 2003, for a one year arrangement between the city and Love Elk River for the
Bailey property until the July 21, 2003 meeting.

S:\COUNCIL\Pat\2003\BailyHousePostpone.doc
