Police Department

MEMORANDUM

*Item 3.3.*

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor and City Council

Jeffrey A. Beahen, Chief of Polic~

5-22-03

Hiring of replacement receptionist

The police department, with the assistance of Lauren Wipper, has completed the application
and interview process for the position vacated when Shari Peterson recently resigned. We
were very pleased with the quality of the candidates who applied for this position.

A tentative offer has been made to Kristme Thomas from Elk River who is currently an
employee for Sherburne County. This offer was contingent on Council approval and
successful completion of the background check. If approved, her start date would be June
9th, 2003.

Ms. Thomas has three years of prior law enforcement clerical experience and would start at
step B, or $12.51 per hour and would be on probation for six months. We are asking for
step B so that Ms. Thomas does not have to take a pay decrease to start her employment
here. She will be assigned the position of secretary receptionist.
