May is typically a busy month of training summer staff <br />and putting the final touches on program planning all while wrapping up spring activities. <br />An extensive variety of summer programs will be offered for participants of all ages. <br />Some examples of youth opportunities include sports classes in t-ball, flag football, <br />soccer and lacrosse as well as enrichment opportunities in Safety Camp and Summer <br />Playground Adventures. Opportunities for adults include summer softball, Farmers <br />Market, and canoeing down the Mississippi. Families will have the opportunity to enjoy <br />Movies in the Park, Kidstock music entertainment, and the Riverfront Concert Series at <br />River's Edge Commons Park. <br />A new program that was run this spring was a ride on the new Northstar Commuter Rail <br />Line. Members of the community were able to sign up for the trip which took them for a <br />ride to downtown Minneapolis where they learned how to transfer to light rail line which <br />they then took for a shopping excursion to the Mall of America. The trip was lead by <br />Parks and Recreation staff. There was great interest in the trip with the 100 available <br />spots filling very quickly.
